“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” ~Lamentations 3:22-23
I have come to really appreciate the mornings that I start off with God.
I realize starting my day with God makes my day begin with a fresh, clear, and God-fearing mind.
We are so rushed in our daily hectic lives we forget to slow down in life and make sure God is our top priority to spend time with.
We have to keep in mind our chief end in life. Why we are here. The answer? To glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
We do that by whatever we do we bring Christ the glory in it all.
We also need to spend time daily with God in prayer and reading the Scriptures.
Starting you day off with God will help you focus on what is really important the first thing when you wake up.
You start your day calmly, relaxed, and praising the Lord first thing.
It helps you to keep Scripture on your mind. “I have hide your law in my mind…”
It helps us in our Christian walk- to stay firm on the truths of the Gospel.
It helps fight temptation in every day life.
It shows you the right ways to live.
It helps you encourage others with His Word and what He shows to you in what you have read that morning.
It shows you history- from the creation (beginning) of this world to the early church
It helps you have a pattern and routine each morning
We need to desire to spend time in God’s Word and with no excuses.
We have to NEVER skip one day.
We have to set up a specific time each morning to read
We have wake up early before distractions of the day start
We need to pray for guidance and wisdom as your start your day
We crave to be loved; to have something to fill the void (emptiness) in our lives.
Sadly, we sinfully try to fill these voids with people and things in this world. The reality is that we are searching within this wicked world of mere momentary pleasure to fill our yearning heart and the only thing able fully fill our hearts with true joy, love, and peace is God. Through His Word and prayer to Him we need to spend time daily with Him.The best time is the mornings before your day starts, before you are around the world and it’s idols. We are daily surrounded by wickedness and it is important to fill your mind with Godly things first thing.
We talk about the Christian Walk, about fighting temptation, warn against false teachers and talk about the goodness of God…but we need to make sure we take a stand in our own lives daily reading the Scripture and making God a priority in our lives to be our guide.
Men of God in the Scripture have seemed to make it a habit to rise early in the morning to pray and spend time with God. We need to follow their example and do the same. Here are few:
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” ~Mark 1:35
“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. ” ~Psalm 59:16
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” ~Psalm 5:3
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope I can be an encouragement to you in your walk with the Lord.
Do you begin your mornings with God ?
If so, what is your “get up time”?
What are some helpful tips you can share with others to help them to get up and start their day with God’s Word?
If not, what is hindering you from doing so and how do you plan to change that?
“No one can travel so far that he does not make some progress each day. So let us never give up. Then we shall move forward daily in the Lord’s way. And let us never despair because of our limited success. Even though it is so much less than we would like, our labour is not wasted when today is better than yesterday!” ~John Calvin
